Product Information

Ross Hoddinott is one of the younger generation of photographers making their living out of image making. I always sit up and take notice when this award-winning photographer brings out a new book. His latest is Digital Exposure Handbook (Photographers’ Institute Press ISBN 978-1-86108-533-7).

This almost pocket-sized book is a most useful addition to digital photography literature and merits a place on many photographer’s shelves especially if they are starting out or relatively new to the digital world. It is also of use to the more experienced of us who may have overlooked some of the intricacies of exposure.

Ross covers just about every situation that you are likely to encounter when making images from the basics of exposure to post capture processing in the digital equivalent of the darkroom.

The book is copiously illustrated with Ross’ superb photographs. Highly recommended.

Another book from the Photographers’ Institute Press is Digital Flower Photography by Sue Bishop (ISBN 978-1-86108-516-0) who exhibits regularly and is recognised as an authority on the photography of flowers.

As a photographer who has attempted many times to capture the brilliance and delicacy of flowers I am stunned by many of the images in this book. By following the author’s advice I hope to improve my flower photography dramatically.

Interspersed among the chapters that cover the basics such as cameras and lenses, are Case Studies in which the author discusses in detail her approach to the image in question. If you long to make quality flower photographs, buy this book – it will help.

Yet another Photographers’ Institute Press publication is Success with Landscape Photography by American award-winning photographer Tom Till (ISBN 978-1-86108-535-1). If landscapes are your thing this will be a useful addition to your library. I particularly liked the Pro Tips that are scattered throughout the book.

In the Digital Masters series of books, Lark Books seek authors who are leaders in their field and this they have done for their Travel Photography (ISBN 978-1-60059-110-5) title by choosing Bob Krist to write it. He is a multi-award winner who sells his work to many top magazines including National Geographic and has been named Travel Photographer of the Year by the Society of American Travel Writers.

This is a book that will answer many questions for would-be travel photographers.
